Online 2-Hour Oral Health Teacher Training

Learn why primary teeth matter & how to use Brush!

A two-hour training is available for educators using the curriculum. The training addresses the connection between children’s oral health and school success, and the use of the Brush! oral health curriculum to reduce dental decay. Educators who complete the training receive a certificate.

We recommend all staff complete the Brush! two-hour training before beginning use of the curriculum or parent newsletters.

Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the ways in which primary teeth are important to a child’s health and success in school
  • Understand the importance of primary teeth in child development
  • Understand the characteristics and causes of dental decay
  • Learn about the importance of nutrition in preventing decay
  • Learn how to use the Brush! curriculum and parent materials to promote dental health in both the classroom and in the home environment

Online training is good for an entire year of access to these video segments. Registration is required. A code will be provided once program implementation begins.

The Importance of Oral Health During Pregnancy and Infancy

This training seeks to give WIC staff the education and resources to be comfortable in talking to pregnant women about the connection between their oral health and a healthy pregnancy and the oral health of their infants and young children.

Participants will learn about the current state of oral health of young children in the US and how healthy teeth relate to a child’s health and nutritional status.

Participants will also learn about the connection between nutrition and oral health.
Topics Include :

  • Current statistics about the rate of dental decay in young children
  • Define key oral health vocabulary terms
  • Overview of the high risk groups for dental decay
  • Pregnancy and oral health – the correlation between oral health and pre-term labor
  • Oral health from birth
  • The one-year old dental visit – why it is important
  • Overview of the key developmental areas affected by dental decay and how nutritional status, body weight and school readiness is impacted by decay
